My WIP’s Fourth Revision
Fight and Battle Scenes (2)
My beta readers didn’t feel immersed in my battle or fight scenes. I knew they were right the moment I read the comment.
I admit it.
I don’t know how to write fight scenes.
Still, I’ve tried…three times…to write my stupid fight scene, and a pretty easy one by the way. I haven’t gotten to the battle scenes, which are waaaaaaaay hard.
Write what life looks like
Ever had this happen to you? You beat your brains out and ask for help on what you are doing wrong, asking for suggestions?
Only most people want to talk in general terms, and I should write them that way.
What I Tried
I did what someone suggested and watched a scary YouTube on training SEALS how to knife fight. Yikes. I wouldn’t stand a chance if someone took out a knife. I think I would give them anything they wanted or do anything they wanted and hope I got out of it alive and unmarked.
Anyway, I learned some basic things and put them into my scene. Nobody liked it.
So much for realism.
I watched what Brian Sanderson said about fight scenes, and then wrote another version.
I guess I will post it again. At this point, I really don’t care anymore. My story does not hinge on fight scenes anyway, so I should write them as well as I can and move on.
I will work on one of my battle scenes. These are more important because Part Three ends and Part Four begins with several big battles. So I need to keep from losing readers with them.
Next time I will just write love scenes. At least I know something about them..but no one will like them either. Ha.
